Suggest Treatment For Foul Smell In Mouth While Diagnosed With Pyorrhea

Hi Dr. Good Day,

My father is suffering from pyorrhea, which also leads to foul smell in moth and and breath. He is bit old (63 years), and even the teeth have become loose now. He is unable to chew very hard food items. I was curious to know if, scaling and cleaning is advisable even for teeth which have become loose(the teeth are not so strongly held by gums)? Will it make him loose his teeth altogether? Please advise.
Apart from this what other treatment can be advised for pyorrhea in his condition?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

As per your query pyorrhoea is the bacterial infection in the gums leading to pus formation and as pus is an infected discharge it has a foul odour and it causes foul taste in mouth..

The treatment should be done at the earliest for it as it can keep damaging the gums and all the teeth can become loose and fall..
Yes, scaling and curettage has to be done to reduce infection from the gums and as the gums will heal some level of mobility of teeth will reduce but it does not make the teeth to become completely firm..
I would suggest you to consult a Periodontist and get evaluated and get scaling and curettage done followed by antibiotics, painkillers and topical gum paint application..

If required he/she can advise you to get Periodontal Flap surgery done to improve the gum attachment to the tooth..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
