Good evening...my 18 year old son has the flu. He is an athlete and very healthy. He is currently taking mega doses of vitamin c and measured amounts of oregano oil. What would you recommend to help alleviate the symptoms and shorten the duration. He started symptoms on Sunday. Thanks
Hello, This is Dr. Papaqako answering your question. Thank you for posting your question HCM.
The normal development of a viral is 3-5 days of fever, runny nose, sore throat, cough. These may last up to 2 weeks, exspecially the cough. To help the symptoms take Ibuprofen 400mg or paracetamol 500mg for sore throat, headaches or muscle aches as needed, max 4-6 hours; drink plenty of fluids; If runny nose is a problem, pseudoephedrine drops for 5-7 days can help aslo.
He should not have shortness of breath, or chest pain. If these happens, he should see a doctor, as it may be a comolication of flu. So if worse, or not better, consider a visit.
Hope this helps. Take care.
