Hi,
For a chronic fistula-in-ano, a connection between the anal canal and the skin, you need to undergo surgical treatment after relieving infection. The chronic inflammatory tissue should be removed as it impeded healing process. The mode of repair depends on the presence or absence of involvement of the external and the internal anal sphincters, when continence is a matter of concern in the post-operative stage. Some fistulas are repaired by simply laying them open. Postoperative bowel training is an essential factor in management. Sitz baths are always helpful. Hope this helps.
