Suggest Treatment For Fever, Cough And Poor Appetite

Hi: My 18 year old son, who refuses the flu vaccine, was diagnosed with the flu 5 days ago; he still has a fever around 101.5, very weak and coughing, with a poor appetite. Should I take him back to see his doctor, as he is missing school and plans to attend college after he graduates? Thanks, Howard

Hello and thanks for your question.
It's my first priority to help you.
As such you should give him OTC Motrin and Claritin initially.
Also hydrate him with warm liquids.lemon tea, honey tea.
Give him OTC Nasonex nasal spray, nasal saline spray and Robitussin DM.
Elevate his head with an extra pillow while sleeping.
Use a humidifier in his room.
Steam inhalation and saline gargles can be tried.
Give him OTC Zantac.
If his symptoms'll not show any improvement then see him to doctor for further evaluation.
