Suggest Treatment For Fever And Cough

Hello. I recently went to the doctor. I have been coughing and ran a fever. I also have no been sleeping much. When the doctor ran a bp it was around 135/93. She did a rapid strep test and assumed the bp was because I had a fever. She re took my bp after the strep test came back negative and it was slightly lower. She thinks what I have is viral. I read that those numbers could mean a person has hypertension stage 1 or pre hypertension. Should I look into that further or will my bp normalize after I stop feeling sick?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
I have gone through your query and understand your concerns.

As an experienced doctor I can tell you your one reading of blood pressure cannot decide that you are hypertensive. You need to have regular checkup for 1 week and note the readings. If the bp is continuously same then chances of hypertension are high. In my opinion you are having high BP only due to your fever. Dont worry and do the above said and decrease the salt intake also.
Hope this answers your query.

Regards,
Dr.Alekhya.
