General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Very likely your mother is having a yeast infection as diabetic patients are at increased risk of such infection. This is easily treated with a local antifungal cream.
On the other hand, it is best that she gets a visit with her doctor and make sure of the circulation and sensation on her feet to prevent the development of diabetic foot and related complications. Numbness on her big toe already indicates some damage to the sensory nerves in that foot. This puts her at high risk of ulcers and difficult to heal wounds.

I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
