I have recently noticed that looking at the newspaper for a minute or so results in millions of small black dots appearing in my field of view. Even now they are visible against the white of the computer screen. My own theory is that either the rods or the cones in my retina get saturated with the white light leaving a black dot . However I am afraid this might be in my brain rather in my eyes. When I say millions of dots, I see them as closer to each other than the width of this letter I. They are quite small, however, but if I stare at the paper or screen, they get thicker and more obstrusive.
Hi.. Welcome to HCM.. Thanks for writing to us.. What you are observing are the shadows of small opacities present in the gel like substance called vitreous in the eye ball.. They are absolutely harmless. If you start observing them they tend to become more and bigger.. Just try to ignore them.. Then you wont see them.. They have nothing to do with rods or cones in the retina... If you are still worried consult your nearest ophthalmologist for evaluation.. Hope this information is helpful to you..Take care..
