Suggest Treatment For Excessive Salivation While Sleeping

Hello, I m a teenager right now, 16 going on 17 and I often find I have problems when I go to sleep. I often wake up at 4 or 5 in the morning with so much saliva in my mouth that it s uncomfortable and I have to keep my trash can near by to keep spitting it out until I finally fall back asleep. This usually is how I handle it, but as of late I will be spending time at a friends for a week, and I don t want to deal with the discomfort of it, is there any way to have less saliva after sleeping? I also get the same discomfort once I first wake up and have to do similar things to feel better, and sometimes if that doesn t work I ll use Listerine really quickly to at least make it taste better. Is there any way to fix this problem, or at least make it less noticeable? I brush and floss regularly.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

This could be an overreaction of the salivary glands. The main therapy in such cases is botox injection in the salivary glands, although it can lead to dry mouth during the day.

Another treatment option would be amitriptyline before sleep. You should discuss with your doctor on the above treatment options.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
