Suggest Treatment For Excessive Crying Along With High Fever In Children
Hi. My daughter has been crying a lot with a high fever. She recently had convulsions and I took her to hospital where they have done tests which indicate presence of cells in her CSF. Her posterior fontanetelle is not closed yet. Could this be a result of infection that it has slightly opened? The seizures had stopped but now have started again, is it a sign that she is not responding to treatment?
Hello and welcome to HCM, The clinical symptoms and CSF examination are suggestive of meningitis or infection in the CSF. Posterior fontanelle closes at around 9 months of life and it remains open before that. If your baby is less than 9 months of age, there is nothing to worry. Posterior fontanelle is the site from where the infection has entered. Recurrence of seizures requires relevant investigations. You need to consult your paediatrician for clinical assessment and management of seizures. In the meanwhile, maintain good nutrition and hydration of your baby since there is dehydration and loss of energy during episodes of fever.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
