Hello: Your son needs to keep taking the medication; it will help to control epilepsy. If he can, he needs to sleep well, avoid alcohol, fasting, and stressful situations. This is not always possible for people living alone. Levetiracetam and Oxcarbazepine are good options for epilepsy treatment. If he is still having seizures, he can increase the dose of both. If not tolerated, he has option for other medications, as lamotrgine, valproic acid, clonazepam, pregabalin or topiramate. Most of the people with epilepsy can have a normal healthy life. I suggest to your son informing some people of trust around him (e.g. roommates, friends, girlfriend, teachers, coworkers, etc.) about his condition, so they can learn how to act and react if he has a seizure. Look for and consult with a neurologist near the place he is living and let the doctor know about the situation. Get him a stock of medication so he will not run out of them.
