Suggest Treatment For Enlarged Lymph Node In Submandibular Region

Hi, I m a 24 year old female. Non-smoker, moderate alcohol intake, no significant PMH, apart from HPV-positive cervical smear. 2.5 weeks ago, I HAVE NOTICED AN ENLARGED LYMPH NODE in the submandibular area on the left side of the neck (anterior triangle). the lymph node measures about 1x1 cm, firm, smooth and mobile. about a week ago, I have noticed an enlargement/swelling of the palatoglossal arch on the same side (left). (it almost looks like it has shifted to the midline slightly). the tonsil behind it does not appear enlarged/changed. I would really appreciate your suggestions.

Dentist 's  Response
Hello,

I can understand your concern. Sometimes an infected lower molar or impacted third molar can make the lymph node in the submandibular region enlarge. Is the lymph node painful? Do you experience food impaction in some specific area of tooth every time you eat and is difficult to clean?

I would advise you to visit your dentist to get an oral examination where a source of infection can be ruled out that can cause this lymph node to enlarge. Once the infection will be treated, the enlargement will disappear.

I hope this answer helps you. Thank you for choosing HCM. Let me know if you have follow up questions.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
