Suggest Treatment For Elevated Levels Of Triglycerides

I am 37 male otherwise healthy with elevated levels of Triglycerides - My triglyceride level (without medication) is around 245. My total chloesterol on last check about 5 months back was 187 with HDL being 54 and LDL being 127. My doctor advised Lipicard 160 (Fenofibrate) for ongoing us. I noticed, after consuming that medication for about 3-4 months, that my body used to ache quite a bit after an overnight sleep, I had stiffening in my muscles that persisted for a about a week. I stopped and restarted and the same symptom appeared after consumption of Lipicard 160. I have now stopped the medication and I am perfectly ok now. I fear taking the medication again. I went back to my doctor and he advised I restart the medication and get a Liver Profile Test done. I dont want to restart. Can anyone suggest an alternative drug that I can use ? My doctor still insists that I consume the medication and get a test done and show him the results

Hello Sir: Your triglyerides should be below 150, so they are quite high and your LDL should be somewhere under 100 depending on other risk factors. Here are my recommendations: 1) lower saturated fat intake by limiting intake of meats sticking only to lean proteins; eliminate fried foods from your diet as well as baked goods; 2) doctor approved cardio exercise 40 minutes per session 3-4x per week; 3) Increase water-soluble fiber from legumes, oats, psyllium fiber; 4) take this medication alone without other meds but take with food to increase absorption 5) Avoid alcohol 6) the side effects you mentioned could be from this med, please get your liver profile test done; caution use with egg or soy allergy7)triglycerides seem to rise with a high fructose (juice, too much fruit) or sucrose diet, so cut down on this; read labels you would be surprised how much fructose is in foods.Thank you for coming to HCM
