Suggest Treatment For Elevated Blood Pressure

I ran out of BP medication on Thursday. It is now Sunday and my BP is 156/90. I will get my meds tomorrow when the pharmacy opens. I was wondering if I should take one of my husbands BP med. to bring mine down. Would that be a problem? Should I just wait until tomorrow.

Greetings
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
This is a common problem that we forget a dose of medication or skip few days due to non-availability.

In many other conditions like diabetes it is absolutely critical to not skip any medication at all. So a large stock has to be maintained. But in case of BP , there is generally no such hard and fast rules unless the BP is not extremely high like about 200/100. Therefore in your case , with a BP of 156/90 , it is nothing much to worry about for a few days.

You can reduce salt intake during this time to almost no salt at all. This is one way to control the BP with in your present range.

As far as your husbands medications are concerned , it is very important to know which medications he taking and your pertinent history , in order to use the right medications without any serious side effects.

Having said that , it is still important to note that any serious health problem arising during this period of non-availability of medication , should be taken seriously and you should visit your doctor.

I hope the answer was helpful. In case you need any further assistance , feel free to contact in writing.

Regards.
