Suggest Treatment For Ear Infection And Swollen Glands

My wife has had an ear infection and swollen glands since the beginning of September. Has been prescribed a number of antibiotics, swish and swallow. And has recently developed a pain in her right side under the belly button closer to the hip. Today our Dr. prescribed Ciprofoloxacin Hic 5 MG. Take one tablet three times a day as needed. She has had no symptoms of any irregular bowel movements only the pain in her abdomen. We read the side effects and warnings on the medication and are wondering if the warnings are a factor in her taking this medication. Pretty severe side effects with this med. What are the possibilities of side effects showing up?

Hello,

Ciprofloxacine is a very commonly used antibiotic for urinary infection and sometimes for bowel infection. Generally it is taken twice a day so please do not take it three times a day.
Side effects are possible with many medications and with ciprofloxacine as well. Most of the patients that use it generally tolerate it well and have no problems with it but some do develop side effects. It is generally better avoided in elderly and patients that may have problems with the heart and blood vessels.
The most important question of all is "does she really need the ciprofloxacine", to answer this question you can ask your doctor on the reason he prescribed it and if there is a specific infection he is trying to treat with it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
