Suggest Treatment For Ear Infection And Sharp Pain

Hi, I had an ear infection and ruptured ear drum that seemed to clear up some weeks ago. The ear infection then returned severely and my Dr stated I developed mastoiditis. I have been on oral antibiotics for 5 days now and while the lump and pain have eased a lot, is still there. I have occasional sharp pain in my ear that only last a moment and hearing loss. I have another 6 days prescribed on antibiotics but I am wondering how long I should wait to get checked again or worry that I am not getting better.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of ear infection and sharp pain. The probable reason is ear infection . Sometime infection spread to ears through eustachian tube , when upper respiratory track infection is left untreated . Along with medicine your should also take multivitamin ,which boost the immunity and do not let infection come again and again. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper checkup and treatment . Doctor will examine ear and throat physically and ears with otoscope and rule out causes like wax buildup and temporomandibular problem . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin) at least for 10 days along with anti inflammatory drugs . For now keep your ears dry and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain . Also apply dry warm compresses on on external ear twice a day and take ibuprofen for pain.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
