Suggest Treatment For Dry Cough

My mother has a really bad cough, she says it is because of her allergies, or her blood pressure medicine. I am really worried and I just want to make sure she's being healthy. The cough makes me cringe, it sounds very dry, and I would perceive it as a smokers cough, but I don't know what to call it since I don't hang around smokers. She always stops coughing after a while, less in the mornings and somewhat more at night, so, is she OK? She went to a doctor, and I just want to know if what she told me is true.

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, allergies and some of the antihypertensive drugs can cause dry cough.
So what she is telling is true.
Enalapril (antihypertensive drug) is known to cause dry coughing.
So if she is taking Enalapril then it is advisable to change it.
For allergies, oral combination of antihistamine (levocetrizine or fexofenadine) and anti allergic (montelukast) drugs once a day at night are beneficial.
Don't worry, she will be alright with all these.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your mother. Thanks.
