I m having double vision. It started in May of 2014. One doctor said that I had a stroke but the mri said everything was normal Then they said that I neede prisims in my glasses so they had a pair made with an 8 prism, which work for about a week. now the double vision is back so then I had some blood test and the only thing that came out high was the RDW. I m on blood thiner and have been since 2009 and started using B-12 shots. My RDW is 15.6. I would like to know how to get my vision back? Marilyn
This could be mononeuropathy as MRI is normal and without any other symptoms. You have neuropathy of nerves supplying muscles of eye. Paralysis of these muscles lead to imbalance of eye alignment causing double vision. Prisms are used for image alignment to reduce double vision.
Recurrence of double vision could be either worsening or improvement of paralysis of eye muscles. Consult ophthalmologist for prism power adjustment/ any worsening of condition.
Regarding increase RDW, as you are on blood thinners especially Aspirin is know n to cause gut bleed into stools. Regular loss of blood leads to Iron deficiency anemia. Iron deficiency anemia typically rises RDW.
Consult a physician for gut bleed and treatment adjustment.
