Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter is 30 yrs old and has been living with dissociation disorder. We know that is not considered a diagnosis, we have been to 5 doctors who want to put her on antidepressants. She has gained 40 pounds in the last 2 years. Her thyroid has been checked, she has complete physicals. She cannot drive due to the foggy vision. Can you give us a direction to take? She has had a MRI, nothing found.
Hi. I can understand that you are concerned. Dissociative disorders are the full spectrum of disorders which are made up of several disorders including DID, dissociative amnesia, derealization/depersonalization disorder. If she is diagnosed with one of these it is definitely considered to be a diagnoses. The mainstay of these disorders are psychotherapy, and tends to be long-term, and it is important to build a relationship with a therapist. Often these disorders are co-morbid with other disorders like depression, anxiety etc, which then can be treated with antidepressants etc. I hope I gave you more information that could be helpful
