Suggest Treatment For Dissociation Disorder

My daughter is 30 yrs old and has been living with dissociation disorder. We know that is not considered a diagnosis, we have been to 5 doctors who want to put her on antidepressants. She has gained 40 pounds in the last 2 years. Her thyroid has been checked, she has complete physicals. She cannot drive due to the foggy vision. Can you give us a direction to take? She has had a MRI, nothing found.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi. I can understand that you are concerned.
Dissociative disorders are the full spectrum of disorders which are made up of several disorders including DID, dissociative amnesia, derealization/depersonalization disorder. If she is diagnosed with one of these it is definitely considered to be a diagnoses. The mainstay of these disorders are psychotherapy, and tends to be long-term, and it is important to build a relationship with a therapist. Often these disorders are co-morbid with other disorders like depression, anxiety etc, which then can be treated with antidepressants etc. I hope I gave you more information that could be helpful
