Suggest Treatment For Difficulty Swallowing Caused By Botox Injections
I went to the dr 11 days ago and had botox injections for muscle pain in my neck no I am having trouble swallowing my food and I am in more pain now than before my dr said it will wear off but how long does it take and is there anything in the mean time I can do?

Thanks for writing in to HCM.
When the botulinum injections are given in the neck sometimes it spreads to adjacent muscles i.e; the strap muscles which support the hyoid bone. When the Strap muscles become weak due botulinum toxin , difficulty in swallowing occurs.
Kindly inform your doctor regarding this.
Such problems get better with time and need3-6 weeks time.
You need to do modifications in your diet like:
1. Eat semisolid food - mashed vegetables, curd.
2. drink water if the food is getting stuck and try to push the particles by drinking water.
3. Eat only in sitting posture.
Kindly consult a physician immediately if food enters wind pipe to avoid aspiration.
Kindly avoid botulinum injections on the neck in future.
