Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea, Headaches And Muscle Aches

What are symptoms of Diquat aquatic herbicide poisoning? I used a Diquat 8% product (Weedtrine D) diluted in water at rate of 16 oz per gallon to spray pond wednesday evening. Due to leaking valve on sprayer, I had the diluted product on my hands for about an hour and I do have small sore on back of hand. Since thursday afternoon I have had mild diarrhea , mild headache and leg muscle aches. I have been been drinking pedeailyht since this morning and the diarrhea has become less frequent with just small amount. Headache still coming and going. Anything else I should be doing? YYYY@YYYY

Hi,

I have just read your query, Diquat Dibromide. Here are a few things you should know about it:
1) It acts by the formation of oxygen-derived free radicals.
2) Usually, it produces clinical symptoms like anorexia, vomiting, diarrhea and symptoms mimicking acute renal failure.
3) Massive dehydration and electrolyte imbalance will occur due to it.
4) This occurs only in toxic dose if 25-50 mg/kg is ingested.
5) In case of emergency orogastric lavage has to be done followed by administration of Kaolin or Bentonite instead of charcoal as an adsorbent.
6) IV catheterization and fluid administration will be required to restore blood volume in severe cases.

I strongly suggest you visit a General practitioner if the symptoms persist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Moses John Wesley,
General & Family Physician
