Suggest treatment for diarrhea and vomiting when diagnosed with viral infection

My husband has had a nasty virus and suffered from vomiting and diarrhea. He had to have a liter of fluid via IV along with blood draw. The blood work show that his liver function and bilirubin levels were slightly elevated. Is this normal? Blood draw was before IV.

Hello,

It could be a viral gastroenteritis.

Consult a physician and get evaluated. In most of the cases, it will settle by itself.

As of now, you can take antimotility drugs like racecadotril for symptomatic relief.

ORS (oral rehydration solution) have to be taken to prevent dehydration.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
