Suggest Treatment For Diabetes Caused After Whipple Surgery

6 years ago I had whipple surgery for pancreatic cancer which left me a diabetic. I have trouble getting my a1c levels down. I go to my family doctor. Should I be under the care of a diabetic doctor who is trained in that field, or just stick with my family dr.?

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
What problems you are facing related to high blood glucose after undergoing surgery on pancreas appears that your diabetes is insulin dependent.
It would be advisable for you to consult Diabetologist and get proper treatment instituted first. Once your blood glucose comes to control and reach normal limits, then follow-up could be done next with your family doctor.
Again, if there are fluctuations observed in the blood glucose levels, you should be monitered and treated by the specialist.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
