Suggest Treatment For Dermoid Cysts

5 wks ago I had conventional surgery to remove a dermoid cyst and both ovaries were removed. Two days later I was told that I was losing blood but they didn t know where. I was given a transfusion and ultra sound. The ultra sound showed that I had a hematoma a little larger than a baseball that was lodged in the pelvic area. It was told that this would cause more pain and take longer to heal. A week ago I was taken off all restrictions as my incision was doing well....and that the clot was smaller. Since I have had tried to increase activity but each time I do I feel weak and have more pain....more like a pulling sensation in my abdomen. I realize that my age is a factor too, being 81. However, I m a very active person and don t use my age as an excuse. Also, about three weeks ago my neighbor called 911 as I was so weak and looked unwell. The ER doctor ran all types of tests with good results. He also ordered another ultra sound and the told me he was going to call the gynecologist on call. He ordered an antibiotic. If memory serves me right the ER doctor said something about a small suture seeping ....I am quite concerned, first of all why I had post surgery internal bleeding. Until my visit to ER and being on an antibiotic I was having chills and low grade fever every evening...fever would be about 100.4 - 100.8. My normal temp is 97.6. Please advise.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

A hematoma is not a big deal and will settle by itself generally. You can go for a repeat ultrasound after one week to reassess the size. As of now drink plenty of water and take bed rest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
