Suggest Treatment For Depression

hi i have a question about the way my husband acts all the time lately. he sleeps all the time barely eats ( few slices of deli ham a day) he has mood swings, and slurs his speech from time to time. i have tired to get him motivated but nothing works all he wants to do is sleep! we lately have been having problems at home (fights about little stuff) he last his job over 1yr ago and will not look for a job and when i leave for work he tells me that he is scared to alone. he wont do any house work or let the dog out to go potty when i'm not home. i have no clue what to do! we have no ins and i'm lost i need help! he has been to see a therapist but that didn't help he never kept up with it and lied to them about what was going on at home. he was on 1/4mg of Xanax (for panic attacks) an refused to take them b/c he doesn't like the way they make him feel. he also binge drinks i have found several empty bottles in his car. this is how i found he was having problems being left alone

Psychiatrist 's  Response
hiiii

i admire you for positive outlook

you have described well

but on basis of it ,,we cant say it is depression

depression has constant and persistent low mood

and your husband has mood swings and irritability

it can be atypical depression because he slept more

so before starting any treatment
still more evaluation required to get diagnosis

xanax is not useful in this case
so as per my opinion it is not depression because patients of depression keep always ready to take treatment and get out of its emotional disturbance
they seek treatment

here in this case scenario is different
so consult psychiatrist and get proper diagnosis'
after than treatment will respond better

thank you
take care
