Suggest Treatment For Dark Pigmentation Under Thighs, Armpits And Buttocks

Hi , I am a 28 yr old female. Works as SW engineer and my job is sitting 9 hours al day. I am also a little over weight. I have always had black patches under my thies, underarms and butt. I have also had black patches on the sides of my nose .. I have very dry skin. For the past one month , these black patches started itching and really burning due to the itch.. It has become scaly . When I try coconut oil to soothe, it is ok for one day and the next day it starts to itch again.. Please help. Thanks in advance .

My Dear

Welcome to Healthcaremagic!
I have noted the contents of your mail.

I think that your description closely matches a condition known as Pseudo Acanthosis Nigricans which is response of the skin from body folds towards friction.

There are some medications like Canthex that are supposed to help patients in your situation but it is always better to look for simpler measures and some of them are:

1 Weight reduction
2 keeping the areas dry and clean
3 avoid friction causing undergarments or other types of clothing
4 For control of itching and burning, one can go for mild steroidal creams like hydrocortisone for a short course not exceeding a week and then tapered off.
5 anti allergic will help in almost all instances .
6 Use of coconut oil at the current stage will be less beneficial but of course once the acute part is over, filtered coconut oil applied in small amounts will reduce friction and relive irritation.

Once again, you are suggested to increase physical activity after the acute stage is controlled and cut down on weight.

it is recommended that you please get your sugar levels tested as in several patients, this condition may herald the onset of diabetes or pre-diabetes.

Best wishes from Healthcaremagic team!
