Suggest Treatment For Cysts On The Ovaries

I am 48 and postmenopausal, previous hysterectomy of uterus 15 years ago. I have a 19mm cyst on my left ovary and my right ovary is not visualized on CT, MRI, or ultrasounds. No color doppler flow in lesion and low in ovary. Does this prove that I am post menopausal? Is it normal to get a cyst post menopausal? The right ovary has atrophied due to menopause? Will I need to have it removed?

Hello,

Menopause is the time when a woman’s ovaries do not release eggs and this happens usually between 45-55 years of age. You are in menopause and as the ovaries are not releasing eggs they shrink so that is what happened to your right ovary and it does not need to be removed.

Presence of cyst in the ovary is not related to menopause, this can happen in any age group. So my advice to you is see a gynaecologist for presence of cyst in your left ovary. The size of the cyst is really small so don’t panic and follow your doctor’s advice on it. Apart from this you can maintain a healthy life style with exercising regularly and staying fit which will be beneficial during the menopause.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
