Suggest Treatment For Coughing Up Phlegm And Mild Sore Throat

I had mild fever after being exposed to the cold one evening because I was not properly dressed.
I took the Nyquil cold and flu for the next two days. On the third day, I was able to go back to work.
Now, two weeks after, I have this on and off cough with phlegm and mild sore throat. Tea with lemon
and honey can relieve temporarily as well as gargling with Lesterine or Hydrogen Peroxide w/ half water.
Please tell me, is this now Pharyngitis? It also wake me up around 2-3AM. Should I take an antibiotic?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Pharyngitis is inflammation and/or infection of the pharynx which is in the back of the throat.
Sore throat is pharyngitis. It can be viral or bacterial, though most commonly viral. Since it is likely viral, antibiotics would not be needed.
Post nasal drip of secretions can also cause pain and irritation of the throat.

The cough that occurs with the common cold or flu can sometimes last up to 6 weeks in some persons.

You may want to try the use of a mucolytic to help to break up the mucus so that it can be more easily expelled.
Examples are mucomyst, guaifenesin, bisolvan
A oral spray may also help to relieve the discomfort in the throat.

I hope this helps
