Suggest Treatment For Cough, Sore Throat And Body Ache

Hello Im Ashley so last week i think i had a sinus infection, my nose was stuffed i could not breathe. i coughed so much i felt like my lungs were going to pop out. i coughed up mucus continuously. my voice started to mess up and be really hoarse this lasted for 1 week. the next week came and my throat started to hurt a little, and then it became worst. the other symptoms were gone, all that i had now was a sore throat and a cough. i looked in my mouth and my tonsils were swollen and red and my tongue had a white grayness to it. its been 5 days now i have been taking 800 ibuprofen every 6 to 8 hrs and ther-flu every 4 hrs and drinking herbal cinnamon tea with honey its kind its kind of helping the ibuprofen takes the pain away from my throat , but i can not eat. i have just been on liquids and soup and mash potatoes. two days ago my body started to ache really bad and is still acheing.. my whole entire body it feels like all my joint spots in my body are acheing. so my symptoms now are : cough, Sore throat, Body ache/ Joint ache.. what do I have or should do?

Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from upper respiratory tract infection, and the symptoms of cough, sore throat, body ache/ joint ache is due to it..
As it is a viral infection it will resolve once the virus will complete its cycle in human body..
As of now you can start with supportive treatment to relieve the symptoms like:
-Gargle with a warm saline solution that is by mixing 1 teaspoon salt in a glass of water and warm it to make a luke warm solution..-Take a combination of decongestant like Phenylephrine, mucolytic like Ambroxol and anti allergic levocetrizine and another combination of Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen..-Take cough expectorant containing Gueifenesin and cough suppressant containing Dextromethorphan.-Chew a Vitamin C pellet daily..-Do steam inhalations..-Avoid spicy and chilled foods.. -Sip on warm water throughout the day..-Do warm compresses over chest..
Hopefully the symptoms will resolve within a week and if it worsen consult a General Physician and get evaluated..

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
