Suggest Treatment For Cough, Sore Throat And Scarlet Fever

I have had a cough and sore throat off and on since January 6. I have had chest x-ray and two throat cultures that were negative. I broke out in a body rash and shedding the skin. Some of it was gritty and rough. My doctor put me on Prednisone 10mg from February 4 until the 17th. I went in again yesterday with the sore throat and throat culture negative but the rash is almost gone. Yesterday she put me on Amoxicillin 875mg and said I may have had Scarlet Fever...what do you think???

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have cough, sore throat and Scarlet fever . well these symptoms are due to sinusitis and upper respiratory tract infection.Consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics amoxiclav at least for 10 days along with decongestant. Maintain proper hygiene. Drink plenty of water and liquids. Take tepid sponging if it is severe headache.Doctor may order test like swab test , blood test , and viral culture test to rule out condition like acid reflux and strep throat. I would suggest you to :-

1.Salt Water Gargle- Mix 1 tsp of salt with warm water in a glass. Gargle for roughly 15-20 seconds and spit out.
2.Take anti-inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen/acetaminophen it will reduce pain & swelling.
3.For congestion and stuffy nose you can take oral decongestant like Pseudoephadrine.
4.Drink plenty of water & Take rest.
