You are having inhalation
lung injury.
Inhalation of fumes can cause inflammation and irritation of airways.
And this can cause
cough,
chest pain,
chest tightness etc.

So you have done right thing and you well gradually improve in 1-2 hours.
Don't panic, drink plenty of fluids orally, do warm water gargles 5-6 times a day.
You can take simple anti inflammatory drug.
If cough worsens or you develop breathlessness then
consult pulmonologist because you may need inhaled bronchodilators.
Don't worry, you will mostly improve in 1-2 hours.
