Suggest Treatment For Cough And Cold In An Infant

Hello. Baby is 8 months old. He has a productive cough and colds and mild fever of up to 37.8C. His pediatrician recommends carbocisteine (solmux) 1ml 3x a day and cetirizine. Is it ok to give this mucolytic in babies this age? As far as i know it is not recommended to give cough and cold medicines to children less than 2 years old. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per your history, it may be due to respiratory tract infection.

For that you can give syp levocetrizine and syp acetaminophen.

Do regular nebulization.

Watch for symptoms like high grade fever, dry skin.

In case of not getting relief he may require antibiotics, complete hemogram after pediatrician consultation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
