Suggest Treatment For Cough And Cold In A Child

HI, Good afternoon doctor My concern about my son 3.8 yrs old. He is having cough and little cold, not like running nose. Doctor suggested to give romilast tablet at night one tablet. Is that safe and more over he was having cough 15 days back and suddenly again he is having now, Previous time doctor suggested Kidpred Syrup for 2 times a day and it was ok. I am not able to understand why he is getting cough again and again.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Recurrent cough and cold in toddler are usually due to allergic. Romilast(monterlukast) is used to decrease frequency of such episodes. If child not able to take it in tablet form syrup can be used. It is safer than Kidpred. Kidpred (prednisolon) is used only for severe condition. Additionally child needs avoidance of allergen exposure like dust, pollen, insects and pet animals.
