My daughter aged 19 and of normal weight and in good health suffers uninvestigated constipation. Yesterday she had a hydrotherapy session which felt just the same as sessions she had in december. She is now in pain complaining of pain in her anus. And whilst she wants to go nothing is happening and she says she feels as if her insides will come out. There is no bleeding. what should i do?

HI
Thanks for posting your query to Healthcaremagic.

See always the cause for the problem has to be found out . Many conditions like Hypothyroidism, Dehydration , Low Potassium Levels , Intestinal Problems etc . Unless these conditions are treated her Constipation will not get cured .

I advise you to consult a Physician and ask him to evaluate for the same . He shall advise certain tests like Serum TSH, Potassium, Ultrasound Abdomen to look into the cause of problem .

Till then avoid Non veg food , eat more fruits and vegetables .

Hope you find this information useful.

Any clarifications or Queries feel free to ask.

General & Family Physician Dr. Bihle Nestor Mbinkar's  Response
Hi, thank you for asking Healthcare Magic.
Effective treatment of constipation would depend on the cause. Treatment varies from lifestyle changes to medications. Changes to diet and lifestyle are often recommended as the first treatment for constipation and in many people this will improve the condition without needing medication. Lifestyle changes could be as follows:
An increase daily intake of fibre. She should eat at least 18-30g of fibre a day. High-fibre foods include fruit, vegetables and cereals.
Add some bulking agents, such as wheat bran, to her diet. These will help make her stools softer and easier to pass.
Avoid dehydration by encouraging her to drink plenty of water.
Encourage her to get more exercise, for example by going for a daily walk or run.
Encourage her to respond to your bowel's natural pattern: when she feels the urge, she should not not delay.
She should try resting her feet on a low stool while going to the toilet, so that her knees are above her hips, as this can make it easier to pass stools.
If these fail to resolve the problem, then she can try laxatives.

I hope that answers your query. If you have more questions or any follow up query do not hesitate to write to us.
I wish her well
