Suggest Treatment For Constipation

I have had diarrhrea and vomiting for 3 different days in January and the same no. of days in December,it is becoming a regular occurance which makes me tired.Today though I didn't feel 100% I again had diarrhrea. I have been constipated for about 2 months and took Laxsol whih didn't help and latterly Laevolac which works better. After shoulder surgery 4/11/13I was taking Panadol with codiene,Wth minimal pain now it's just panadol,on my own inititive as thought it would stop the constipation. I am not exercising so much now and wonder if this is part of the problem?Hope you can help? Thanks.

Dear Friend.
I am Dr Anshul Varshney.
I understand your concern.
You might have developed constipation as a result of drugs you are using for pain relief. Codeine and other opiods and narcotic drugs frequently cause constipation.
You should discuss with tour doctor about other options available for pain relief then opiods narcotic drugs.
Increase roughage in diet. You may take lactulose on as required basis. Avoid taking it regularly.
Treating and eliminating the cause would eventually treat your problem.
I hope you find it helpful.
You may ask to us if any further query you have.
Good luck
