Suggest Treatment For Constant Hiccups After Having Colonoscopy And Hernia Surgery
My uncle is 62 year old, white male, who had both a colonoscopy and hernia surgery in the same week. After the hernia surgery, he developed hiccups and has had them for about 28 hours now, they will occasionally subside for about 30 mins and then they will start back for hours. What should he do? Does he need any medication? Thanks & God Bless:-)
If this hiccups are persistent then you should take immediate medical help otherwise mostly hiccups are subsided by itself.
Hiccup can result following hernia surgery or even colonoscopic procedure due to irritation of phrenic nerve resulting in spasm of diaphragm, a kind of muscle which separates chest cavity from abdomen.
Usually hiccups get subsided by itself within 24 hours but one can take medication if it persists.

Suggest Treatment For Constant Hiccups After Having Colonoscopy And Hernia Surgery
Hi, Welcome to health care magic, If this hiccups are persistent then you should take immediate medical help otherwise mostly hiccups are subsided by itself. We have symptomatic cure with drugs like antihistaminics (cinnarizine, betahistine) or chlorpromazine or antispasmodics. You should consult your gastro surgeon if hiccups had lasted for more than 2 days and get treatment. Don t worry your uncle will be alright. Regards,
