Suggest Treatment For Colitis While Having Diverticulitis And Chronic Constipation

I need to know what to do for inflamed colon caused by diverticulitis and chronic constipation? This is for my husband who is very sick with stomach pain? He has seen a Gastroentology Dr. And did take one week of medicine? What should he eat now? He has been drinking broth and yogurt? What can I do for him? When the constipation was so bad he ate celery prunes and lots of water? What else can I do for him.

Hello,

You can have some home remedies to relieve your husband of regular constipation. That is how you can prevent bleeding from diverticulosis. The permanent solution for diverticulosis is surgical removal. I will suggest some home remedies which can be followed.

1. Molasses: One tablespoon of blackstrap molasses before bed should help ease constipation by morning. Blackstrap molasses is boiled and concentrated 3 times, so it has significant vitamins and minerals; magnesium in particular will help relieve constipation.

2. Fiber rich food: Foods particularly high in fiber include bran cereals, beans, lentils, oatmeal, almonds, barley, many vegetables, and fresh and dried fruits. If you're constipated and taking in additional fiber, be sure to drink more water than usual to keep your stool soft and easy to pass.

3. Mint and ginger tea: Mint and ginger are both proven home remedies to help alleviate a slew of digestive problems.

4. Castor oil: This home remedy for constipation has been handed down for generations. One of the primary uses for castor oil is as a laxative; take 1 to 2 teaspoons on an empty stomach.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sanjay Kini
