Suggest Treatment For Cold, Tightness In Chest And Breathing Difficulty
I ve had a severe cold for 2 weeks.I ve now moved onto a very tight chest hard to breath.no cough.not productive at all. Dry tight chest and feeling ill.short of breath even sitting.the nurse gave me methyl prednisone. Is this any good and can it make one feel bad.I have read side effects and it s a little disturbing. Thank you for kind attention and time.
Given your history of cold symptoms for 2 weeks now I would suggest that you should be started on antibiotic possibly, Azithromycin (Z-Pak).
Coming to your concern Prednisone can decrease the inflammatory response in your body and might help you breathe a little easier and short course of Prednisone won't cause you any harm.
My view on this is that you should be started on a nebulizer treatment probably with an Albuterol nebulizer and monitored if your difficult breathing decreases. This can be combined with antibiotic therapy for a possible bacterial infection. Hope a throat swab has been sent for culture as well.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Manoj Pradeep
