Hello! When it comes to the medication of cluster headache there are two pharmacological approaches. Preventive treatment and abortive treatment of the crisis. Abortive treatment aims to cease the the attack. Inhalation of 100% oxygen has been effective but it's not always possible. Intranasal lidocaine or sumatriptan can be used. In some cases verapamil and triptans may be used, but to a lesser effectiveness. Preventive treatment most frequently consists of verapamil in large doses (up to 480mg/day), but a control with ECG is required through the time the dose increases and also periodically during the treatment. Other drugs that can be effective are mood stabilizers (elevil is one of them) or anticonvulsants. Also prednisone can be beneficial for aborting a cycle of cluster headaches. In resistant cases, various procedures can be performed on the trigeminal nerve. Xanax or other benzodiazepines had not been succsessful in aborting an attack or preventing one. I hope i have been of help
