Suggest Treatment For Chronic Pain In The Foot And Ankles

Hi, I had a right foot and ankle injury back in august, torn a big toe tendon and some of my smaller matatarsel got dislocated. No broken bones according to x-rays and mri. Since then I have a small lump under the big toe s sesamoid location. I have been wearing an ortho boot since then. I have a lot of pain in the fore front and ball of foot. Can t bear weight without the boot. I went back to work about 2 months ago. Every step I take is painful. My foot gets swollen and purple, then turns blackish. And then purple again as it goes thru that cycle of discoloration. And because of walking with boot, using crutches and cane to move around my back and neck now are giving me pain. One doctor says that my foot is just swollen and it will heal by itself and gave me pain meds. Another doctor says I have sesamoiditis and neuritis and wants to give me shots of cortisone and physical therapy if the insurance approves. The reason of my question is that non of the doctors have concern about the constant discoloration. When I show or tell my friend about the blackish discoloration of my right foot they all get concern and tell me that it looks bad. I mentioned it to both doctors and one told me it was because of the color of my skin that appeared to look black but not to worry. After 4 months of pain and waiting for a treatment to help me heal i am desperate and concern that this situation will turn into chronic pain for me. I know it is a lot of information but can you advice me? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello Dear. There might be avascular necrosis of some part of the bone due to trauma. That is the blood supply to the area of trauma is less. Adequate rest and physiotherapy exercises may help.

Kindly consult a good orthopedic surgeon who may help you out with the situation.

Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you.
All the best
With warm regards
