Suggest Treatment For Chronic Grand Mal Seizures

Ever since his major stroke ten yeas ago, my husband would have occasional Grand Mal seizures -- one every 1 to2 years. Since his last hospitalization with a bout of seizures, his doctor tripled the dosage of his anti- seizure medication: Valproic Acid. Former dosage 250 mg. two times a day. Now, dosage 750mg of Valproic Acid, twice daily. Ever since the tripling of this medication, we have witnessed a dramatic decline in my husband s physical strength and cognitive dunctioning. A book by Dr. Peter R. Brggin: Brain-Disabling Treatments in Psychiatry explains that this drug can be hepatotoxic. From a brain-disabling perspective, it can cause sedation, tremor, ataxia, somnolence, delirium. It can further cause endocrine disorders and metabolic changes. -- all of the above my husband shows. As a former University Professor, PhD in Literature, he would keep his sanity in the Nursing Home by being an avid reader. After his Valpric Acid dose was tripled, he has lost all muscular coordination - can no longer walk. He is so week, that he slouches to one side in his wheel chair. His speech can not be discerned clearly. His signature is illegible. Words like the and here are difficult for him to figure out. He shows all the classical symptoms of Parkinson s. Further serious side effects of his medication, as listed by the author/psychiatrist are: - liver failure, a known problem - potentially fatal pancreatitis - hyperammonemia with encephalopathy I am shocked to find this out about my husband s medication. His doctor has not familiarized himself with possible, less damaging alternatives like cannabis oil with the component, CBD, cannabidiol. Nor has he considered controlling seizures with diet and supplements. Other authors, I have read, Dr. Mark Hyman, the Ultra Mind Solution , Norman Doige, MD: The Brain s Way of Healing , Eric R. Braverman, MD: Younger Brain, Sharper Mind , David Perlmutter, MD: GRAIN BRAIN , Have cited various research, indicating that: 1) Mental functions often improve when certain physical disorders, such as Hypothyroidism are adequately diagnosed and treated. 2) Magnesium deficiencies can lead to seizures. 3) Zinc deficiencies can trigger seizures. 4) Low levels of brain chemicals, like GABA and Serotonine can cause seizures. 5) Gluten Sensitivity can trigger seizures. 6) CBD in Cannabis Oil stops seizures and supports cognitive health. Most doctors are not familiar with diet and supplements as a therapy, although much of the recent research points in that direction. So where can we go from here? My husband s soctor specializes in Eilepsy. Would a Neurologist be valuable to consult and if so, who would be a knowledgeable Neurologist in Calgary, Alberta. Thank you for any suggestions you may have, Sincerely, Margot Jahn.

all his problem are neurological. for sizer EEG must have been done and since he is elderly mri brain can be taken. for his problem leave doctors to work and treat the patient. it appears you have studied on subject but it is not advisable to impose your view or come to conclusion on different finding. it will not help your husband.. leave neurologist to treat patient and donot impose your view. you can discus the feeling with treating doctor.
