Suggest Treatment For Chronic Constipation With History Of Strokes And Neuropathy
My husband is 65 years old and has had many strokes and has diabetes and neuropathy. He is always constipated. Every weekend we have to load him up on laxatives in order for him to have a bowel movement. It usually is a very large amount, filling the toilet bowl twice. Last week end and this weekend after dosing with lactulose and Milk of Magnesia and 5 Dulcolax (our normal routine) he is involuntarily passing clear liquid and mucous and gas. No bowel.

Stroke by itself does not cause constipation. But constipation often occurs after a stroke because he not drinking enough liquids, are in bed most of the time, or are taking certain medicines as part of his treatment. He may need to drink a lot of water, set a regular time for using the toilet. Eat food that have a lot of fiber such as fruit, vegetables, prune juice, and cereal. See his doctor if you think he is not improved by giving medicine or diet change.
