Suggest Treatment For Chest Congestion And Cough In An Elderly Person

I am a 69-year old married female I-am sick. Have chest congestion and cough. I have a history of being prone to bronchitis, but haven t had a bout in 2-3 years. I have a fever on and off, and have no appetite. The last solid food I had was 48 hours ago. I made some Kraft Mac & Cheese tonight since that is a usual comfort food for me. I ate only 4 bites of it, then started puking. I am up to date on all my vaccinations, including a total of 3 doses of pneumovax oner a 15-year period, and, most recently, Prevnar. I am a stable diabetic since the age of 45, on pills only. I returned home one week ago last night after 10 days in Myrtle Beach. I have spent the past 48 hours in bed, but am leaving Friday for four days in Niagara Falls, Ontario with our family, so really want to get better in the next 2 days.

Hello,

Cough is the most common symptom of bronchitis, wheezing may occur because of the muscular tightness and inflammation of the airways. This may leave you short of breath.

Several viruses can cause chronic bronchitis, including influenza viruses, also bacterial infections cause bronchitis. Temperatures are due to infection exposure.

Adequate fluid intake is important. Lung secretions will be thinner and easier to clear when you are well hydrated.

A cool mist vaporizer or humidifier can help decrease bronchial irritation. An over-the-counter (OTC) cough suppressant may help suppress a cough.

Natural treatments and home remedies include foods that have reduce bronchitis symptoms: honey, lemon, ginger, bay leaf. To rule out a bacterial infection have a visit with your physician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
