Suggest Treatment For Chest And Arms Pain In An Anemic Person

Hi... I m very concerned about my blood test results. I m anemic which I think is due to heavy periods. I ve been on an iron supplement for awhile now, the latest results are slightly better but I feel so much worse, I ve been having terrible chest and breast pains, pains in my arms, legs, almost like inside my bones. I ve had these pains for about 4 months now, but family doctor is useless and thinks it s due to an anxiety and just tells me to continue to take the iron supplement. I saw another doctor at a walk in clinic and he s sending me for a colonoscopy to rule out any other possible bleeding. I just had my latest blood work done yesterday.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Heavy periods can lead to iron deficiency and thus anemia.
Intake of iron supplements will correct the iron deficiency state.
At this point of time, I suggest you to get complete hemogram done to determine the hemoglobin.
If hemoglobin is still low, you need to get other investigations like colonoscopy as suggested by your doctor to rule out any bleeding lesion in the large intestine.
Anemia is associated with body aches, tiredness and generalized weakness.
Thus, it needs to be confirmed that the pain in chest, arms and legs is not due to anemia.
Once this is ruled out, other causes of pains needs to be ruled out.
Chest pain needs to be assessed with caution since it could be due to cardiac ailment.
Thus, assessment of cardiac system needs to be done with basic investigations - ECG and echocardiogram.
ECG and echocardiogram will be able to rule out any cardiac disease.
If no cause for chest and generalized pain is ruled out, other causes like anxiety can be the cause.
I suggest you to firstly get hemogram done for hemogram, colonoscopy for any bleeding lesion and investigations to rule out cardiac ailment.
Anemia if present needs to be corrected with appropriate therapy.
If any lesion is evident on colonoscopy, it needs to be treated.
If any cardiac abnormality is evident on ECG or echocardiography, appropriate medication will be required.
If anxiety is established as cause of generalized body aches, anti-anxiety drugs will be required.

Thanks and take care
