Suggest Treatment For Calluses On Feet

I have developed calluses on both feet rather suddenly, not only on my heels but on the out side of both feet, along the side of one big toe and even between two toes on my left foot. I was diagnosed with neuropathy several months ago and take Gabapentin, have gone from 50mg 2 times a day to 600mg 3times a day and still have quite a lot of pain. Have been tested for diabetes and MS but tests were negative. Any suggestions?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Calluses are a toughened area of skin which has become relatively thick and hard in response to repeated friction, pressure or other irritation. Calluses are generally not harmful, but may sometimes lead to other problems, such as skin ulceration or infection.
Treatment for calluses usually involves avoiding the repetitive actions that caused them to develop. The other measures to overcome it includes:
1. Trimming away excess skin under aseptic conditions.
2. Use of Callus-removing medication - keratolytic agents containing salicylic acid.
3. Medication to reduce infection risk by use of antibiotic ointments.
Kindly consult your doctor for further evaluation and management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
