The symptoms experienced by your mother is due to diabetic neuropathy. Diabetes affect the peripheral nerves and hence can cause burning or tingling sensation of arms and legs. Diabetic drugs can also cause vitamin B12 deficiency which can also increase the occurrence of neuropathy. Control of blood sugar level is highly essential.
Continue anti-diabetic drugs along with routine Vitamin B12 supplementation. Drugs like Pregabalin or Gabapentin should be started after ruling out any contraindication. These drugs act at the brain level to inhibit the pain sensation.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
