Suggest Treatment For Bumps On Legs With Yellow Discharge

Hi. For about 2 weeks now i have been getting moderate sized bumps, mainly on my lower legs and feet. They are incredibly itchy and they ooze a yellowish fluid. I get about 1-3 new ones every day. They usually go through the same process. They start out as light pink, then about 3 days later they turn white and have a red ring around them. Then they turn into blisters, pop, ooze, and start to heel and scab over a few days later. While they ooze, they can leave a crusty yellow trail all the way down my leg. I m 18 years old and still in school so its a really embarrassing problem to have.

Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

Seems likely that lately you have been suffering from "Folliculitis", which is a bacterial infection of the hair follicle. Since this has been a recurring issue for you, therefore it would be better to take a course of an oral antibiotic for a week or so.

If you were one of my patients I would have treated you empirically with an oral antibiotic; one from penicillin group of drugs (cloxacillin or flucloxacillin). That would be good enough. It is a prescription drug, therefore, you must ask for a prescription of these from your physician

Topically you may use an OTC topical antibacterial e.g 2% mupirocin cream, twice daily.

An antibacterial soap would be an added advantage and would help in decreasing the pathogenic bacterium from the cutaneous flora.

Regards
