Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

Acne is very common in teenage. Acne is a recurrent condition and can sometimes last for years or decades. The severity of acne also varies from individual to individual, some having just mild occasional acne and others having incessant eruption of inflammatory acne.

Treatment is individualized according to the severity of acne.

Topical treatment is an essential part of antiacne therapy and mainly revolves around Topical antibacterials(clindamycin, nadifloxacin), Topical benzoyl peroxide and Topical retinoids.

Topical retinoids are first line topical treatment for all grades of acne because they are antiinflammatory as well as comedolytic. Topical retinoids and benzoyl peroxide also prevent development of resistance to topical and oral antibiotics.

Oral treatment includes antibiotics like doxycycline, azithromycin or minocycline for inflammatory acne while Oral retinoids are usually reserved for the most severe grade of acne, i.e nodular/cystic acne.

I would suggest that once your acne activity is controlled, you should still continue with a topical retinoid for maintenance because they are comedolytic and thus prevent new acne.

Hope this adds more to your understanding of acne
