Suggest Treatment For Bump Near Uvula Along With Surrounded Irritated Skin

I noticed today that I thought I had something stuck at the end of my mouth and it was so close to the uvula that it sometimes triggered my gag reflex. it turned out to be a bump and not debris from eating. it s a small white bump and it seems to be irritating the surrounding skin. What does this mean and what can I do to relieve it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and thank you for your question.
It sounds like you may have a tonsili stone or tonsilith. These form when there are crypts in the tonsils and food packs in there and forms small white nodules. They are not dangerous but may cause bad breath and irritation as you describe. You can remove these with Q-tips or waterpick. If you have a lot of pain or fever see a doctor as you may have developed an infection.
Regards
