Suggest Treatment For Bruising And Large Bump On Calf After Injury

My husband was hit in the calf just to the left of the bone by a piece of heavy wood debris on April 17th. Bruising and a large lump developed. Swelling occurred immediately and goes up and down after ice and ibuprofen. He had it xrayed a couple of weeks ago which showed nothing broken. It still remains. Should we seek more medical attention or just give it a little longer?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Your husband's problem can be due to muscle strain and formation of haematoma. Muscle strain may need more time to recover. In case you have increased pain it should be examined by an orthopedician and immobilisation in cast might be required. Any possibility of nerve injury should be ruled out also. Elevate the leg when you sit and while lying down. NSAIDs and muscle relaxants will be helpful also.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
