Suggest Treatment For Bronchitis And Sinus Infection

My husband is 43 years old. He has never smoked. He has a history of bronchitis 1-2 times per year. He recently became sick with what seemed at first like a sinus infection (low fever, fatigue, cough, sneezing etc.). He did not go to the doctor but waited it out and took over the counter meds which seemed to help. Fast forward 3 weeks. His symptoms improved but he kept a lingering cough. He would have days where he felt good then days where he was fatigued (he was also transitioning back to the night shift...he s a police officer). Last weekend he just couldn t shake everything and went to the ER...they did an x-ray of his lungs and they are clear. Blood work was normal. Gave him breathing treatment and sent home with antibiotics and steriods. He spent 5 days in bed for the most part...drank tons of water and took meds and slept. He s only slightly better. Still coughing up phlem (turned from yellow to clear) but very fatigued...sweating...red, watery eyes. No appetite. I m worried. Thoughts???

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms of the query are quite suggestive of a possible allergic reaction. Bronchitis makes the chest vulnerable to infections. When you develop the infection, lymphadenitis is bound to occur.

I think, therefore, that both the conditions are related. You should meet a good pulmonary specialist for proper treatment.

Bronchodilators are now available that are very effective in the contract for bronchitis. I would suggest the same to you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
